Nintendo has "lost money" once, with the Virtual Boy. They're making as much money as Sony, while spending a lot less. The DS is far from a "Gameboy with a pen", the hardware is quite different, and it's the only console right now that's getting new game genres.

Kanzentai: I may be a bit of a Nintendo fanboy (though, in my life, I've only had ONE Nintendo console), but right now I'm more anti-lack of innovation, anti-all looks and no fun, anti-only 5 game genres with an incremental update every year, anti-multi-million dollar budgets which makes it so that no risks can be taken, therefore, let's make another sequel to a successful product (*), anti-"innovation is another word for a better graphics processor". In other words, anti-Sony, and anti-EA.

(*) did you know that Will Wright had to fight for YEARS to get the green light for The Sims, and they only said OK to shut him up? They expected that game to lose a lot of money. It's "only" the best selling game of all time... (not exactly my kind of game, but it was innovative)

I've been a Nintendo guy almost all my gamer life. As a big fan of portable gaming, I had / have almost every Gameboy version available but I didn't get a DS. Nintendo stoped evolving since the Gameboy Advance, the SP was no evolution, was an upgrade that should have been available since the original GBA, and DS is a gameboy with a pen... Double screen doesn't bring that much Hype to gaming. I played around with a DS and I don't like it, it's ugly and it doesn't feel right in your hands. The Micro is selling well because it cute, and more portable, but don't gimme crap about the screen. It's better than a GBASP but it can't reach the level of the PSP.

I bought a PSP after much thinking, I wanted a portable media center and it really fits my needs, the Internet Browser and the audio / video feautures are great... I always loved Nintendo, I even got a Cube when the PS2 was / is the main console around, but now Nintendo is going to lose money in the portable market. Sony is redefining the concept of portable gaming as it did with console gaming with the PS2.

Biased, biased, biased! :P

Also, Nintendo has owned the portable console market for more than 10 years (if I'm not mistaken). Meaning, they know what to do, and their games are very adequate to the portable realm: simple ("simplistic" at times, maybe), variety is in order, also they know how to make people pay for what they can get on the internet for free (legal or not): roms ^^

If Sony managed to put Sega where it is now (game developer, no longer making game-consoles), I don't see any reason as to why it has no chance of doing the same to Nintendo (or vice-versa). Both are very strong companies, with "large" budgets and the potential for demolishing their rivals in the market.

But do we really want to live in a world with only ONE gaming console? Be it Nintendo's, Sony's, Microsoft's or anyone else's? We've got the Cube for party gaming, the PS2 for friendly gaming (1-2 players, sometimes more) and the Xbox for "serious" gaming (mostly multiplayer on Xbox live [I think]). If there was only one console, there would be no competition, therefore no innovation, therefore, we would be looking forward to the next Graymestationbox... and we wouldn't want that, would we? :)

Let there be mistakes, it shows what should not be done! After all, without mistakes there can be no evolution. We are entitled to commit mistakes, but mustn't use that as an argument! Who knows? Maybe the PSP2 (if Sony chooses to make one) will be better than Nintendo's (still hating them for using my clan's acronym for their console: DS is MY clan, damn it! :P) QS (Quadruple Screen!) and maybe it won't!

Time is an intricate device that only has 2 buttons: play and stop. You can press stop anytime you want to, but you'll be stuck forever! (meaning, you're dead :))

Let's keep the "gaming-triangle" alive, eh? :)

PS: If I am a Sony fanboy (and I'm not, I would love to have an Xbox!), then you're a Nintendo fanboy! ;)
